Winter is dragging on and on and on! I know the kids are about as anxious for winter to finally end as much as I am. So hence forth we go through hopefully our last month of this powdery wintery white fluff and arise in to the warmth of spring come April. At least we've been praying on it.
Dawning on the warmth, (and yes the mud) I was thinking of something fun for the kids to do regarding something that would brighten their Saturday. A tea party. A tea party straight out of Alice in Wonderland! I want colors. LOTS of colors! And treats. MMM the treats we will have that day! And of course LOTS OF TEA!!! :) What more could we ask for!
But with any downfall of planning anything with the kids is that I need to find these items. And that's the hard part. Like dress up clothes. My kids need dress up clothes, and tea cups and tea pitchers. Well anything vibrant in color really. We need something with lots of bright pretty colors! If you by chance have anything and you are willing to donate please let me know! I will send you my address to where to send the items and after the tea party is a success I will be more than happy to send you pictures of the event as it arose throughout the course of the afternoon.
We will be serving finger sandwiches and tarts and if that's not at all, we will even be having a chocolate fountain!!! :D How amazing is that! They are looking to make and serve the following:
*Cucumber sandwiches
*Sweet and nutty cream cheese spread on bagels (Sliced small of course)
*raspberry danishes
*Chocolate fountain complete with:
- sour dough pretzel pieces
- marshmallows
- strawberries
- graham crackers
How sinfully sweet it'll be! I can't wait for it all to take place! :) So please if you can donate! Please do. Thanks again!

CWCC blessings!
God is amazing and that is all that I can say right now. Besides the fact that I am sorry I haven't been able to keep in contact with anyone. My first computer went kapute on me a few weeks ago. Since then I have gone through 2 other computers in hopes that they work. Both down falls. :( So here I sit, on a new; used, dell and ya know what? It's everything I have hoped for. It's small, it's light, I can do my work, listen to my music and get back in touch with everyone out there! :) What more can I ask for right?
Well to some much more! I have some good news that I have been longing to share with many who cares to know what is going on on my side of the world. And the only word that I can basically describe it as is, a blessing. Nothing short of a blessing. Unless you want to call it a miracle and hey you know what? That works too.
I suppose by now you are wondering just what has happened.. How about I start you off with a bit of bad news so the rest of the time you can read about all of God's good graces? First of all, our pastor and his wife just moved away. :( They will be back at the beginning of April for the big Easter breakfast but other than that; they permanently moved out of Nett Lake. Our small church is grieving. But with all bad you know as well as I, God blesses.
With that I am saying; we have someone coming as of March 9th, to run for pastoral candidacy! The church is all of talk about it. Now if God has his way in it, which he does, the new person will come, love the church, the parsonage, the community and be willing to stay for a permanent pastoral position. One can only hope and pray. The only downside for Bob and I is that we won't be here at that time to meet with him. :( We will actually be in Minneapolis at that time doing ministry work and in fellowship with wonderful friends! :)
We have Feed the Starving Children and I have the opportunity to speak about Native Ministries and my work through the church. Now that is what I am wanting to tell you all about! Back in December of 2011 I send numerous emails, (Actually I think it was back in November. I don't remember the exact month now but does that really matter?) asking for basically contact with my Cooking with Chef Channey kids. Well I finally got several responses back! :) And the best one of all was from a couple who live here in Minnesota! :) They want to come up and meet me very soon and I can't wait for them to come! I guess they're looking to come up by the end of April. :) Well they weren't the only ones who I heard from. I heard from another couple. A pastor and his wife. In return, not only are they thrilled by what they are doing, they are supporting me food wise and clothing for my kids wise and equipment wise!! There is nothing more that I could ask for!!
After I got of the phone with the pastor all I could do was cry! With nothing of course but pure joy. God answered my prayers! CWCC will soon be set with everything that we could possibly ever need that my kids will be able to have class for many months to come!! We are nowhere near stopping now! Nor should we! :) I couldn't be happier. :)
I have yet to tell my kids but I will on the 17th when we have our next class. We are actually hosting a baby shower and since it will be so early in the morning the kids will be having breakfast there. I'm making french toast sticks. Using a full loaf of bread and once the sticks are gone they are gone and then the real fun begins.
There is going to be so much going on they have no reason not to have something to do! There is a salad to put together, decorations to put up, cupcakes to frost, a card to sign! We have a lot of things to do and only a few hours to do it in. Along with the upcoming plans of what we are going to do come April.
Which reminds me, come April, each and everyone of my kids will have a passport, when they come in each month that we have a culturally themed month they will “fly” around the church, “land”, go through customs and the metal detectors and then cook something from a different culture as they learn about it as well! :) If they learn 5 out of 8 scriptures and they have traveled to 5 out 8 countries they will be able to win a HUGE reward! And that is a sleepover with movie at the church! :) Possible pizza party too. Can't let my kids go hungry! Lol. Breakfast in the morning and they have to be respectful of everything! We will probably be doing it on a Saturday night just because it'd be easier to get them home and keep them there for Sunday for church. After church they will get a ride home and have enough time to get sleep for school on Monday. If we try to get them to 8 countries by January they'd have a sleepover in the midst of winter when there is nothing that is going on. :) Make sense?
I hope so! Topper. I have help! My very dear friend, who is like my sister is actually going to come and help me chaperone. :) I so love her! Plus it's going to do some talking but I will hopefully have her boyfriend willing to help me chaperone the guys! :D
Isn't God great? Have I mentioned I now also have a cooking position at a local church each wed night cooking for teenagers? I also lead one Sunday at church! It's all because of God and that I am certain of! :) I am going to call it quits for now. I am sure you have more than enough to read!
TTFN and may God Bless You!

Incorporating new ideas....
So I am thinking of havin a meeting with my kids when they come in next month. Find out what other kind of things they want to do and rewards they want to get from it. In May, could we celebrate Cinco De Mayo, learn a little of the mexican heritage, eat tacos and start on pinatas? The wouldn't be big pinata's. Just small ones. And they'd use glue and glitter to decorate and some paint instead of crepaper to decorate them.
If I start teaching them bible verses and stories and set up a reward chart for them would they still want to come and learn more? Maybe we could learn about Sampson and his hair and make that something goes along with that? What about taking a recipe directly from the bible and having the kids make that instead? I guess there is a million little things that we can do it's just to do them is the thing.
If I did start making the classes longer and do more things would more kids come? That'd be wonderful! I guess I will have to have a meeting with my kids! :) We shall c what happens. Need prayers!
God Bless You!

Recipes...
Recipes from our past cooking class:
Fry Bread:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups warm water
Oil, for frying
Fry Bread:
Directions
Put flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Mix well, add warm water and stir until dough begins to ball up. On a lightly floured surface knead dough. Do not over-work the dough. After working dough, place in a bowl and refrigerate for 1/2 to 1 hour.
Heat oil to 350 degrees in a frying pan or kettle. Lightly flour surface and pat and roll out baseball size pieces of dough. Cut hole in middle with a knife (so the dough will fry flat) to 1/4-inch thickness and place in oil and cook until golden brown and flip over and cook opposite side until same golden brown. Dough is done in about 3 minutes depending on oil temperature and thickness of dough.
French Silk Pie:1 sheet refrigerated pie pastry
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar
Whipped cream and chocolate curls, optional
Directions
- Cut pastry sheet in half. Repackage and refrigerate one half for another use. On a lightly floured surface, roll out remaining half into an 8-in. circle. Transfer to a 7-in. pie plate; flute edges.
- Line shell with a double thickness of heavy-duty foil. Bake at 450° for 4 minutes. Remove foil; bake 2 minutes longer or until crust is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar and eggs until well blended. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches 160° and coats the back of a metal spoon. Remove from the heat. Stir in chocolate and vanilla until smooth. Cool to lukewarm (90°), stirring occasionally.
- In a small bowl, cream butter until light and fluffy. Add cooled chocolate mixture; beat on high speed for 5 minutes or until light and fluffy.
- In another large bowl, beat cream until it begins to thicken. Add confectioners' sugar; beat until stiff peaks form. Fold into chocolate mixture.
- Pour into crust. Chill for at least 6 hours before serving. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate curls if desired. Refrigerate leftovers.
Hello,
My name is Chantel McGleno. I live in Nett Lake, Minnesota. It's a small Native American reservation in Northern, Minnesota. Each and every month I host a cooking class for the children on the reservation. I am averaging 16 kids on a month to month basis. I teach healthy based cooking and just let the kids get down and dirty in the kitchen!
This month, (Feb. 18th, 2012) my class had an asst. cook. It was my grandma Flora Skinaway. She took the time to come up and teach not only the VBS team that was there as well! The kids each rolled out dough and then cut it out with cookie cutters! It was fried in hot oil in fun shapes and then served with homemade butter! So okay the frybread may not have been the best choice for healthy food but everyone had a great time making everything!
That wasn't the only thing we did, one of my older girls, (She is the one in the white hoody in the background) made French Silk Pie. Then there was coconut cream pie made. (The little girl in the front of the picture wearing purple.) Team members all made butter and enjoyed the work out of all the shaking! :) It was so much fun!
Even with all the fun that we do have doesn't mean that it's been this easy. I do this many times a month completely solo. Also been paying for things out of pocket so the kids can come do something and not get bored. That's what started it all! Anyways, this is our story.
I am no one special. I don't have a degree, I don't have my own children. I'm just a grown native woman, who lives on the reservation, I volunteer each month at the local church, helping to show my kids how too cook.
Recipes, class times and updates will be posted quite frequently on here. :) Would love to get more people inspired in all that we do and maybe even start it up in their church! :) God Bless you!
